G.A.S A Community Initiative

As stated by Ofsted: At its best, alternative provision supports learners as part of their whole curriculum, and is valued by students, and re-engages students in learning. Students are usually motivated by their placements and start to see the point of their school work; many go on to gain appropriate qualifications.

We believe there are reasons for this stimulation of the individual in this environment and this is also echoed through the works of Sir Ken Robinson. he states that the education system is today still based on the old methods of learning and the industrialised structure which has always been based on academics, and non-academics, smart people and non-smart people and a system which runs according, creating mental conditions on learners from an early age. He also states that the current system was designed and conceived for a different age, in the age of the intellectual culture of enlightenment and the economic culture of the Industrial Revolution. Sir Ken Robinson also goes on to state the effects this system HAS and the neglect of education through alternative methods such as the arts which can encourage the personal qualities of the individual rather than a standardisation process, which does not benefit every learner.
